I have missed a few days of posting; I have been on the road and when not driving, I have been totally wrapped up in a variety of stuff, so no time to write.
Day 37 of my #100happydays is a picture of oysters on the half shell from Leon’s Fine Poultry and Oysters in Charleston SC. Words almost cannot express but I will try!
My favorite meal on earth is oysters on the half shell and champagne for a first course, followed by a small beef filet and caesar salad. It just doesn’t get any better than that, or so I thought.
However, I may have a new second favorite – the spousal unit and I were in Charleston SC last weekend, home of much great food, and a local recommended Leon’s on north King. It is a fairly new place and is in an adorable converted auto mechanic shop or something of the sort. With the perfect weather, we ate on the patio and the food was just absolutely delicious.
First we ate the pictured tray of oysters in about five seconds flat. This was accompanied by some very yummy bubbly. Then we had a plate of fried chicken that was just perfect! Precisely crunchy exterior with juicy meat inside – it was great! The crust of the chicken has some heat to it – just enough to give it a nice kick. I suppose we had sides, I really don’t remember. The chicken was enough.
So two things learned from this – 1) always search out a local for restaurant advice when traveling, and 2) fried chicken just might surpass beef for my last meal on earth given a choice!
